Microsoft teased this moment several times in the last few months, but the launch date has finally arrived: the company just launched the official PC drivers for the Xbox One controller, which means that gamers can now play they favorite games on PCs using the new controllers.
Xbox One Controller now has a special edition for these Windows versions: Windows 7, Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 7 32 bit, Windows 10, Windows 10 64 bit,, Windows 10 32 bit, Windows 8, Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, Windows 8 64bit, Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, Windows 10 Mobile 32bit, Windows 10 Pro 64bit, Windows Vista Starter 32bit, Windows Vista. The Xbox One Wireless Controller features over 40 improvements to the award-winning Xbox 360 Wireless Controller. More immersive Feel the action like never before with Impulse Triggers.
The new drivers are available in both 32- and 64-bit versions and work on Microsoft's most recent Windows versions, including here Windows 7 and Windows 8. Both Windows 8.1 and 8.1 Update are also supported.
Just like it was the case with the recent improvements it made to some other key products, the company says that this new release is based on consumer feedback, as many users have actually called for Microsoft to release PC drivers that would allow them to play games right on the desktop computer.
“We know our fans have wanted PC compatibility, and we know they wanted to be able to use the Xbox One controller with the same games and applications they have been playing with using the Xbox 360 controller,” the company said in a statement rolled out this morning.
“We can’t wait for them to play their favorite PC games with what we consider the best controller ever made and we’re excited for fans to experience the improved D-pad, redesigned battery compartment, new comfortable design and offset analog sticks. The new PC drivers will enable the Xbox One controller to be used with any game that featured gamepad support for the Xbox 360 controller.”
Installation is not at all difficult and the only thing that you need to do is to download the drivers, connect the Xbox One controller to your PC using a micro USB cable and let the operating system automatically deploy the necessary files.
In some cases, you might have to point to the local path of the drivers, if the installer cannot automatically determine their location to extract the required files.
Keep in mind, however, that although you use these drivers, not all games are going to work with the Xbox One controller. Microsoft says that it's a must for the game to actually offer support for this particular controller, so in case it cannot detect it, it's the game that's causing the issues and not the drivers or the operating systems.
And still, there's no doubt that this is an important release for plenty of PC gamers out there, so use the download links below to get the drivers suitable for your computer.

Introduction
If you purchased a Xbox Wireless Receiver for Windows and are wondering how to use it in Windows 7/8.x, this guide will show you how to install the drivers. Since Microsoft is pushing Windows 10 as hard as they need to (despite many users not wanting it or preferring to wait), problems like this will come up.
Since Microsoft wants to make this as hard as possible on Windows 7/8.x users, this guide will show you how to manually install the driver and get it working.
Guide notes
- In most cases, the receiver will pick up the driver correctly. However, I have included manual installation instructions for situations where this does not happen.
- Windows 10 users: Refer to the Windows 10 guide.
Plug your Xbox Wireless Receiver into your PC and see if the driver gets picked up automatically. If it does not, you will need to install the driver manually.
Try this method first. Mircrosoft has pulled the driver from the public Update catalog.
While this method isn't the most reliable, it is still worth trying as it works in most scenarios.
Before opening Device Manager, give Windows an opportunity to pick up the driver automatically. If it does not work, the driver will need to be installed manually.
Open Device Manager. The best method to open Device Manager varies by OS.
Windows 7: To open Device Manager in Windows 7: Open the start menu and right click Computer. Select Manange and locate Device Manager.
Windows 8.x: Right click the Windows logo in the taskbar. Select Device Manager.
Double click XBOX ACC and verify your error code is Code 28. Click Update Driver and you will see a window with two options.
Before manually installing the driver, try selecting Search automatically for updated driver software. If this does not work, the driver will need to be installed manually.
I do not have a Win7/8.1 x86 backup. Sorry :(.
If the automatic installation does not work, download the driver from this driver backup from Microsoft Update Catalog. The unzipped and compressed .cab file can be used, but needs to be unzipped with 7Zip.
Select Browse my computer for driver software.
Locate the folder where the driver is downloaded, and select Copy address as text. Paste this location into the box under Search for drivers in this lcoation:.
Click Next and install the driver.
To verify the driver was installed correctly, check if the receiver shows up under Network Adapters. If the driver was installed correctly, this is where the receiver will be found.
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
