The Os isn't validated though. Everytime it boots up I get a dialogue box informing me the license isn't genuine.
after some digging I found the root of the problem- the Os installed is Windows 7 PRO but the license key (based on the sticker at the back) is Windows 7 Home Premium.
Do you know where I can download a clean .iso of Windows 7 so I can just reformat the thing?
I tried microsofts website, but I had to input the key from the laptop before I could download the .iso and when I did that, it gave me an error message and asked me to contact HP (laptop manufacturer) instead.
Or, is there a way to downgrade my license from Windows 7 Pro to Home Premium?

I'm asking for a way to activate my OS using the product key on the sticker at the back of the laptop.
