However, video podcasts are in MP4 format and can be put on your iPod.
Step 1
Open iTunes. Click 'iTunes Store' in the menu on the left side of the iTunes window.

Click 'Podcasts' in the toolbar. Search around to find a podcast that you want to download. You can search by category, new releases, top episodes and more. Once you find a podcast that you want to download, click on its image icon to go to its iTunes page.

Click the 'Subscribe Free' button. iTunes will prompt you to confirm that you want to subscribe to the podcast. Click 'Subscribe.' The latest episode of the podcast will download to your computer. If you chose an audio podcast, it is already in MP3 format. If you chose a video podcast, you will need to do a little more to get it in MP3 format.
Step 4
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the iTunes directory on your computer. By default it is 'C:/Users/your user name/My Music/iTunes.' However, you might have chosen a different directory when you originally set up iTunes on your computer.

Scroll through the iTunes directory to find the 'Podcasts' folder. Double-click on it. You will see a folder for each podcast that you are subscribed to. Double-click on the podcast that has the video you want to convert to MP3. Remember this location.
Step 6
Open your MP4 to MP3 conversion program. If you do not have one, there are several you can try, like Xilisoft iPod Video Converter, Free Video to MP3 Converter or Hamster Free Video Converter (see links in Resources). Whichever program you use, follow its instructions to open the video podcast file and convert it to MP3. When the conversion is complete, open iTunes again, if you closed it earlier.
Click on the 'File' menu, then click 'Add File to Library.' Navigate to the location of the new MP3 file, click on the file and then click the 'Open' button. This will add the MP3 to iTunes so that it can be downloaded to your iPod.
Tip
- You do not need to convert video podcasts to MP3 to play them on most iPods. Many will come ready for iPod playback. If you download one that is not, click on it in iTunes. Click on the 'Advanced' menu, and select 'Create iPod or iPhone version.' iTunes will convert the video for iPod playback.

A podcast episode can be anything from a single song to a commentary-hosted radio show; a podcaster, like a broadcaster, provides a stream of episodes over time. The iTunes Podcast page in the iTunes Store lets you browse, find, preview, and subscribe to podcasts, most of which are free. To find podcasts in the iTunes Store, do one of the following:

Click the Podcasts tab at the top of the iTunes Store page. The iTunes Store displays the Podcast page, with advertisements for popular podcasts. You can click the down-arrow button next to the Podcasts tab to choose specific categories.
You can also get to the Podcast page by clicking Podcasts in the iTunes source list, clicking the List tab to see your podcasts, and then clicking Podcast Catalog at the bottom of the list.
Browse all podcasts in a particular category. Use the column browser and select Podcasts in the iTunes Store column. Select options from the Category column and Subcategory column.
Search for a podcast by name or keyword. You can type a search term into the Search Store field in the upper-right corner of the iTunes window to find any podcasts or other content items that match.
You can also find podcasts outside of the iTunes Store on the Internet.
After you select a podcast, the iTunes Store displays the podcast’s specific page in the iTunes Store, showing all available podcast episodes. To select, play, and subscribe to a podcast, follow these steps:
Choose a podcast in the iTunes Store.
The iTunes Store offers a description and a Subscribe button to receive new podcasts. The page also lists the most recent podcast episodes. You can click the i icon on the far-right listing margin to display separate information about each podcast episode.
To preview the podcast, click an episode title, and then click the play button next to the title.
You can play a preview of any episode in the list. iTunes plays the episode for about 90 seconds, just like a web radio station streaming to your computer. To jump ahead or play the entire episode, you must first subscribe to the podcast. By subscribing, you enable automatic downloading of episodes to your computer.
Click the Subscribe button on the podcast page to subscribe to the podcast.
In typical Apple fashion, iTunes first displays an alert to confirm that you want to subscribe to the podcast.
Click the OK button to confirm.
iTunes downloads the podcast. iTunes displays your newly subscribed podcast in the Podcasts section of your library.
(Optional) Get more episodes of the podcast.
When you subscribe to a podcast, you get the current episode. However, a podcast probably has past episodes still available. To download any free or commercial episodes, click the Free or Buy button at the far-right side of the episode.
